To
promote the idea of environmentally friendly vehicles, AVTOVAZ initiated a peculiar
competition for the journalists - ecological rally "AVTOVAZ-2001" on "Lada-21102"
cars. The main task for the participants was low fuel-consumption. The rally
is organized for the second time and attracts much attention. This year ten
crews (journalists from leading automotive newspapers and magazines) took part
in rally. The length of route is more than 1.500 km. The official start was
in Moscow on 23rd September, "Lada" cars ran through Lypetsk, Tambov, Saratov,
Samara and finished on 28th September in Togliatti. In each city the referees
checked the fuel consumption of cars.
Along the whole length of the route the crew
of "Birzha plus avto" (a newspaper of Nizhny Novgorod) kept the leading positions
and became a winner. On average "Lada-102", driven by these journalists, consumed
4,4 liters of petrol per 100 km, and the best result at one of the phases was
3,9 liters per 100 km. The representatives of Moscow magazine "Avtorevue" were
the second with fuel consumption of 4,5 liters per 100 km. The journalists from
the magazine "The fifth wheel" (St. Petersburg) showed the third result - 4,6
liters per 100 km.
